What others are saying...
I have been a fan of Mr Phillips since I was 5 or 6 years old. I owned the 45 of both “Luv ya Blue” and “Big bad Earl”. I was a die-hard luv ya blue fan. At 10 years old, I was devastated on December 28, 1980, when I heard the news over the radio. I was in the car in Missouri City just off Cartwright Road.
Football in Houston would NEVER be the same. I am a huge fan of yours, one of many I am sure. I will be purchasing a signed copy of your book and see and just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for sharing your life with us all in so many ways. We are bother and sister in Christ and for that, I am even more thankful. Luv ‘ya Bum!
Being born and raised in Houston I was an Oiler fan from day one! I sold programs at Jeppesen Stadium their first couple of years. The Oilers were always the pride of Houston but never more than the Luv Ya Blue years. There were never days like that before or after. It was the most pride of Houston has shown in a team ever. I thank you for those years and hope that God continues to bless you and your family for many years to come.
Franklin Smith has fond memories of playing football with Bum at French High School in Beaumont, TX, in 1940.
I grew up in a small Montana town loving football, the Houston Oilers, Earl Campbell, and Bum Phillips. When I played I wore #34 in tribute to Earl Campbell. Now I coach at Rocky Mountain Collage in Billings, MT. I guess it could be said when I realized I couldn’t be Earl Campbell anymore I tried to be Bum Phillips! I am very excited to read your book. Thank you for taking the time to write one! I can’t wait to read it! Wishing you all the best!
My favorite coach as a young man! I just wish more were like him!
This book is a gift to my husband Steve who has been a Oiler’s fan since he was seven years old. He is now 43 and still wears his #34 jersey with pride! He recently has started coaching middle school football and he really loves it and is very good at it. NFL football is his love right next to God and his family. He just completed his eighth year of football! Thank you for the many years of joy that your coaching style brought to my husband. God Bless!
